Protection
In Africa, I experienced a textile adventure, discovering fragile shards of fabric on the ground and on bushes. All had been subjected to searing sun, equatorial rains, trodden under foot by humans and animals. Possible explanation: The discarded fabrics came from the Community Co-Operative Farm; local ladies protect their crops by creating a wall of old fabrics and plastics, sadly, this barrier is no match for the marauding wild animals and the structure is dispersed. This piece is made from discarded fabrics; hand stitched together using patterns seen on local carvings, pots, houses and fashions. |
